The material for the two volume set, EUROPHOBIA, originates from stories posted by the queer Argentinian–now Basel-based artist Pat Homse on their instagram account. Each story follows a specific format, which forms the “poem”: a background image of 1080 x 1920 pixels (the size of an instagram story), a coloured square (originally yellow, then fuschia), and a short text written by Pat. The text material, the focal point of each poem, can vary greatly in topic and intensity, in profoundness or superficiality–everything is possible with the confines of this rectangle. In general, Homse’s poems are a mirror of their experience as a person of the global majority living in Switzerland, a diary challenging societal norms, latent colonial constructs, or simply expressing anger and frustration towards a system unforgiving to the migrant experience.
